TO RAISE A NATION

Shivers. At the helm of my greatest moment yet, what I do know is starting to come to light. Without assurance or gratification, myself along with a team have created this amazing film together and it is almost our time to shine. God please watch over us as we send this amazing work out to these festivals during the 2018-2019 film festival and award season. Let the world know that this is pure, unfiltered and powerful.

I wrote this film out of love, out of hope — out of uncertainty, frustration; out of guilt — out of loss and grief; out of passion, out of truth and out of my God-given and chosen faith. With words flowing out of my mind and through my fingertips onto a keyboard, I know that you can hear me. I know that this message is as clear as can be.

With the events of racism stemming from the start of time until now, how can black people ever feel comfortable in their own skin? How — with all of the things that we see every day to the encounters that we face in society, how can we truly succeed? With knives and words that seem to always cut us down to our knees. Work twice as hard only to get half, I know that we all deserve better than that. We are all children looking for guidance in the world. Whether it’d be from a parent, a loved one, a friend, a co-worker but more abundantly from our faith and religion, we seek answers - we seek our truth. There seems to be something misunderstood. Between hope and a dream, the overall perception of us black people has seemed to been misconstrued. Not necessarily living in fear, but living in angst — with anxiety that people won’t see; we fear that we truly cannot be.

We give birth to children of the same race — but how can there be you if there is no me? I created this film to present, to question, to anger, to relate but most importantly, to unite every race. So maybe I’m not ready for a kid yet because my heart feels weary but that doesn’t stop me from believing and from possibly seeing.

But honestly, tell me how can we raise a child in America?
